08/11/2013- August Challenge with Tracy Weinzapfel

I had so much fun with the July Challenge that I thought I would try the August one also.  Here is what Tracy asked from us:

"Your August Creative Dare should you choose to accept it is to Let It Go!  Pick a favorite Quote and set the timer!  Pick out your favorite supplies to have them on hand, your art journal or a canvas and see what you create in 1.5 hours."

Here is what I came up with:

This took 1 hour and 20 minutes- I had a hard time finding a quote.  I was not into flowers or hearts tonight so I went geometric.  I used water colors, a black paint pen, a white paint pen, a white gelly roll and a clear gelly roll.  I inked the edges with Mixd Media Black Ink from ColorBox.  I may try another one since I got this one done so early in the month.

07/31/2013 Mixed Media Monday July Creative Dare

I have begun a group of mixed media layouts based on a book series that I love.  J.R. Ward writes the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and I am a HUGE fan.  I started reading the series on the fourth book and ended up devouring the entire series as it has grown.  It is a Vampire series and has lots of sexy times between characters and amazingly written story lines.  The first book I read was"Lover Revealed" and the main characters were Butch and Marissa.  This is their layout.

I have used a technique on the hearts that I learned from Tracy Weinzapfel via her Mixed Media Monday Ustream show.  This layout is created on heavy weight chipboard, primed with gesso.  I have used a variety of acrylic paints, gel crayons, watercolor crayons, pain pens, vintage catalog clippings from 1920, stamps, black ink, mod podge, texture medium, gel glue, and home made mists.  My next canvas will be from the first book "Dark Lover" and feature Wrath and Beth.  Thanks for dropping by.

07/23/2013: Kraaft Shaak 3-2-1 Challenge

During today's web show called the Kraaft Shaak 3-2-1 Challenge, Heather demonstrated how to use 3 pieces of solid card stock, 2 pieces of designer paper, and 1 stamp set to make a variety of cards, etc.  I used 12x12 papers.  She then challenged us to do the same.  I was really excited to give it a try.  Here is what I came up with:

 I used a CTMH set called Treasure. I love the Dandelion fluffs.  These are the solid 12x12 papers.

 This is the front of the patterned paper from Pink Paislee.

 This is the back side.

 Card 1: Used Versamark and clear embossing powder.  Some ribbon and a metal embellishment from my stash.  Size is 3.5 x 3.5.

 Card 2: Sewed using Gold thread, various punches.

 Tag 1: Embossed with Ranger Ultra fine Clear Powder.  Used a chipboard tag from my stash.  Ribbon from PTI.  Eyelet from stash.

 Tag 2:  Used left over pieces of paper and ribbon to layer over chipboard tag.  Cotton twine and punches from stash.

 Tag 3: Chipboard tag, ribbon and punches from stash.  Versafine Onyz black ink, clear embossing powder.

 Tag 4: Chipboard tag, MS circle cutter and border punch.

 Card 3: Gold thread from sewing machine, Viva decor gold pens.  Size is 3 x 3.

 Card 4: MS circle cutter, Chestnut Roan chalk ink, pop dots. 3.5 x 3.5.

 Card 5: PTI Ribbon and SU paper distressing tool.  Chalk inks on edges.  4.25 x 4.25.

 Card 6:  SU punch, MS circle cutter, embellishments from stash. Various other chalk inks for edging, flower and sentiment. 4 x 4.

Card 7:  Gold thread machine sewn, Chestnut Roan Chalk Ink for background.  Various other chalk inks for edging, flower and sentiment. 3.5 x 3.5.

This is a 5 x 3.5 piece of chipboard that I embossed with white embossing powder, layered a chipboard letter and inked a frame.  I used a couple of large brads and some twine so I could hang it up.

01/23/2012 Cosmo Cricket Layout: 6x6 Papers Challenge

Here is the challenge from Cosmo Cricket:

"I challenge you to a layout made from mini deck papers. That's right, one 12" background paper only, all the rest of the papers need to have started no larger than 6". Post your layouts here. I may pick my faves for an upcoming blog post, so leave me a link to your blog in case, I pick yours. Have fun. I hope you'll play!"

I used a 12x12 piece of black SUp cardstock in Basic Black.  The rest of the paper is Circa 1934 6x6.  The painT used is Jenni Bowlin.  The washi tape is from Tim Holtz.

The hearts are all punched out using the Circa 1934 6x6 paper pad.  I used used Rock Candy Stickles ont he red hearts.  I used matte Mod Podge  to adhere all the hearts.  I used a MS edge punch and Jenni Bowlin Cough Syrup paint on the left edge of the layout.

I used a couple of altered Dutch Girl chipboard letters as well as Circa 1934 in the heart punch.  The rest of the letters are from my stash. The photo is matted in the Circa 1934 photo.    I used a Copic fineliner to outline the photo and the hearts.  I used a scrap of the MS border to edge the 12x12 matte.  I used the Jenni Bowlin paint in Cough Syrup and Malted Milk.  I used a homemade spray to mist the black paper- it was an oatmeal paint.

I rolled back the torn piece of black cs and painted it in the Cough Syrup paint.  I then adhered a piece of the Circa 1934 paper and outlined it with the black Copic and inked the edges with the Cough Syrup paint.  The heart is popped up on dimensionals.

Throwback Thursday- Episode 179: Cricutless with Sketch

Emma has issued a challenge to create a card based on a sketch not using our Cricuts.   I usually can rely on Emma to force me to pull out some of my older cartridges for her challenges, but I was excited to follow a sketch also.  I do not do too many sketch challenges as I am never sure how far off of the sketch I can go and so I usually get frustrated and never finish!  I was not too stressed about this one as Emma is always so sweet and actually I really liked the sketch.  Hope you enjoy the card and you can go to http://www.creativetimeforme.com to see the sketch and all other submissions!

Throwback Thursday Challenge !!! - Episode ~157

Challenge is as follows:

***Use either "Paper Doll Dress Up" OR "Everyday Paper Doll" cartridge for this challenge!

*** Project of your choice MUST include either heat or dry embossing on it!

All righty then, Miss Emma has issued another challenge and it must use one of the Paperdoll carts and some sort of embossing.  I needed a card for one of my son's friends so decided to try the cute little alien in Everday Paperdolls.  I did use my Gypsy also as I wanted a base layer for the green guy.  I am usually a huge sucker for ribbons, buttons, etc but decided to just let it go with this card and see what I could do with paper, paper and more paper.  Thanks Miss Emma!  Enjoy!
